About Us

Mounted Police Trading Post“A Mounties Dream Lives On” When R.C.M.P. Sgt. George Mallett retired, his next tour of duty kept him close to Sgt. Prestons Outpost.  Back in February 1997, George, his wife Liz and sister Barb decided to open a shop in the Skyline Brock Hotel.  They prided themselves on selling only RCMP related items, from stuffed animals to authentic souvenirs. In February of 1998, Sgt. Preston’s name was changed to The Mountain Police Trading Post, and on April 11th, 2001 George & Liz became soul owners of the only RCMP souvenir store in Ontario.  There is a 7-foot wooden Mountie out front always ready to have his picture taken with. Liz remembers when her husband was on Parliament Hill on Canada Day and people would line up to have their picture taken with him in his Red Serge.

In the past 7 years, over 1 million dollars has been given back to the community due to the licensing program of the Mounted Police foundation.  So when you visit the Mounted Police Trading Post you are also helping to better our communities across Canada. Sadly, in March 2004, George Mallett passed away. His wife Liz and daughter, Tara, proudly continue on with his tradition.  “George proudly served our country for 26 years and we are honoured to continue his dream and keep his legacy alive.” says Liz.  And the shop has flourished. “We have just about everything you could imagine and most of our products are made in Canada.”

Today the Mounted Police Trading Post stands as a proud tribute to George and his family and is still the “first and original Mountie store in Ontario.”  It is a constant reminder of our country and our heritage.

The shop stocks many unique and one-of-a-kind features such as a giant Mountie bobble head, Stetson hats, sweaters, t-shirts and much more. There is also maple syrup and other goodies to suit everyone’s tastes.

The shop that began as a dream for George and Liz Mallett is now thriving and is a symbol to all Canadians that we should be proud of our Mounties and of our heritage.  The Mounted Police Trading Post has become a symbol of Canadian patriotism and all those who visit the Post share in your dream.
